OUR HQ: THE BEACON PUB, COPTHORNE

About the pub

The Beacon has kindly agreed for Shrewsbury Wolves to use his pub as our HQ. This followed an extensive and bloating tour of the pubs of Shrewsbury in search of the perfect venue, which we truly believe The Beacon is. The pub went through refurbishment in 2005 and is very modern and comfortable.

The Beacon is easy to get to and has a good sized car park. The pub is quite large and has a dining area as well as a sports area with 3 pool tables. The most striking thing about The Beacon is the number of television sets dotted around the pub. It is safe to say that there is nowhere in the pub where you cannot see a screen of some sort. As well as numerous televisions, the pub also boasts two big screens, one of which is 10 x 10 foot and is the largest in Shrewsbury. There is a huge beer garden at the rear with play park for children.

The pub has a range of drinks at good prices. Tetley’s smooth is just £1.87 and a pint of Carlsberg will set you back £1.99. You can also buy food from an extensive menu at exceptionally good prices.

We are delighted to be able to call The Beacon home and we hope that we have a good relationship with the pub for years to come. We ask that members treat the pub and its staff with due respect and as a result we have many happy memories at The Beacon.

Getting there:

CAR: The Beacon is pretty easy to find by car and there is a reasonably large car park adjacent to the pub.

If you are coming from the South of town (Meole Brace, Bayston Hill etc), we suggest you travel to Meole Brace roundabout and take Roman Road (A5191) then the B4380 (signposted Porthill, Copthorne) up past the Meole Brace school fields on your left and Meole Brace cemetery on the right. Go straight over both Longden Road roundabout and Porthill roundabout. At the Copthorne roundabout take the 3rd exit on to Copthorne Road (signposted Frankwell, Town Centre) and The Beacon is 50 metres further down on your left.

From the North of town (Gains Park, Shelton) you need to follow signs for Porthill, Copthorne and Meole Brace and travel southerly down Shelton Road (B4380) towards the Copthorne roundabout. At this roundabout take the first exit on to Copthorne Road (signposted Frankwell, Town Centre) and The Beacon is 50 metres further down on your left.

If you will be travelling from the East of Shrewsbury (Harlescott, Monkmoor etc) it would be quickest to travel through the town centre and over the Welsh bridge towards Frankwell. At Frankwell roundabout take the first exit on to Copthorne Road and follow this road uphill for just under a mile until you reach the Beacon on your right hand side.

For anyone who likes to use a route planner such as the AA the postcode for the Beacon is SY3 8LP

BUS: Buses run from the town centre to the Beacon at regular intervals throughout Monday – Saturday. Unfortunately there is no service on Sundays. You need to get on the number 22 bus which goes from the bus station, out through Frankwell and straight up Copthorne Road, further up which you will find The Beacon.
