Wolves stopper Matt Murray has won the Shrewsbury Wolves Player of the Season 2006/07. 50% of Shrewsbury Wolves members voted for the giant stopper, with Michael Kightly a distant second.

Following a season in which he made just one apperance, Murray was a hugely influential player in the 06/07 season in which Wolves reached the Play Offs. He was an ever present in the league up until the Play Offs themselves when a broken shoulder on the eve of the home leg against WBA put an end to his season.

One of Murray’s highlights came early in the season at Molineux, with Ipswich the visitors. Just before half time Murray saved Matt Richards’ penalty and ultimately saved 2 crucial points for Wolves. He was also in unbetable form in the league fixture at Molineux against WBA; Jay Bothroyd's 83rd minute goal would have been worthless were it not for Murray's heroics at the other end.

Murray was key to Wolves keeping 18 clean sheets over the season as he dominated his area and made countless vital saves.

Almost unbelievably, Murray will face stiff competition for the number 1 jersey in 2007/08 from Wayne Hennesey, a measure of the strength in depth in ‘keepers at Molineux.
